ISRD and the Globus Toolkit

The GlobusĀ® Toolkit is an open source software toolkit used for building grids. ISRD helped develop Grid computing infrastructure to connect disparate computing resources and allow the sharing of data despite size, location or security issues. This technology is now used in universities, laboratories, and computing facilities around the world.

The toolkit includes software services and libraries for resource monitoring, discovery, and management, plus security and file management. In addition to being a central part of science and engineering projects, the Globus Toolkit is a substrate on which leading IT companies are building significant commercial Grid products.

Since 1997, the founding members of ISRD at Informatic Sciences Institute, headed by Carl Kesselman, have been part of the development team that helped the Globus Toolkit become one of the driving grid middleware for science and medicine.
